First Blog Assignment
I am very much a wine novice. I have had a few experiences with wine, but for the most part, I was focused on having alcohol instead of thinking about the form I was ingesting.
My first experience with wine was stealing the never-used cooking wine out of my mother's pantry. I don't remember much about the experience or the wine, other than it was a red. As with most young people, my only goal was to get drunk.
My Father and Stepmother are avid travelers. I have often tagged along with their travels, allowing me to have traveled to 20 sovereign states by 20 years old. These countries are almost all in Europe, a land known for its wines. The earliest memory I have of drinking wine abroad was on a yacht cruise in Croatia. I was 15 at the time. The wine was a very fruity red, meant to celebrate our final night of the trip.
My next memory of wine abroad was a wine tasting in Rome, Italy. My Mother, Father, Stepmother, Grandmother, and my 17-year-old self enjoyed a 5 stop tour that included sampling food and wine. The details of the few wines we consumed have been lost to time, but I believe there was a variety of whites and reds.
In March 2020, during the first months of covid-19 when most people stayed at home 24/7. I attempted to experiment with alcohol with assistance from my parents. This experimentation mainly revolved around liquor but included a couple of wines. The wine I've had the most of in my life is a twist-top sparkling wine that my stepmom has had 15 bottles of.
Overall, I would say I am very new to wine and alcohol in general. I have not developed a preference for one form of wine over another. This means I don't have likes or dislikes yet.
I hope to develop a basic to adept knowledge of wine and hopefully discover my tastes.
